About PALS
Top PAL norms (qualities): Confidentiality, Teamwork, Respect

WHS has 19 PALS.

At Wharton High School there are many different clubs and organizations, but one club that stands out from the others is PALS. PAL stands for Peer Assistance & Leadership. This is a peer-helping program in which selected high school students in grades 11 and 12 are trained to work as peer helpers with students. The selection process includes the following steps: Solicitation of prospective candidates through a survey of students and staff, then an interview with the former PALS. Based on the interview, PALS are selected for the upcoming year. During the Summer, the PALS attend a two-day camp held at the Wharton Junior High. During camp they began to come together as a team, participating in activities that helped them to learn communication skills, the importance of confidentiality, and how to work together as a team. PALS tutor at Sivells Elementary, Wharton Elementary, and Wharton Junior High. The projects they will complete include a Blood Drive, Special Olympics, Teacher Appreciation Breakfast, and a State Conference in Austin.
