Swim Team to Regionals
The Wharton High School Tigers Varsity Swim Team competed last Friday in Victoria for the
This past weekend Taylor J. of Wharton FFA competed in the Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo
calf scramble competition where there were 16 contestants that competed to catch 8 calves in
hopes of receiving a $500 certificate to purchase a heifer for the 2018 Ft. Worth Stock Show.
Taylor successfully caught a calf and was awarded the certificate on Saturday night donated by
David Gallagher of Ft. Worth.
FFA at Fort Worth
Wharton FFA Members competed this past weekend on showing their Brahman heifers at the
Ft. Worth Stock Show. These members competed against hundreds of others 4-H and FFA
members and were able to come out on top. Kelly S, Katy S, Lana F, and Taylor J all competed.
Kelly S. and Taylor J. both placed in their classes. A big congrats goes out to these students
who work very hard at taking the utmost care of their cattle and having the responsibility of
owning them. These members are exactly what the FFA motto is all about, "Learning to do,
Doing to Learn, Earning to live, Living to serve."

Congratulations to Evan, Destiny, and Cooper for earning membership in the ATSSB All-Region bands! Cooper and Evan both qualified for the area audition in January for a chance to earn a chair in the All-State Band! Evan earned 1st chair Clarinet in the Symphonic Band, Cooper earned 2nd chair Trombone in the Symphonic Band, and Destiny earned 2nd chair flute in the Concert Band! All three students will participate in a challenging clinic/concert in January 2017!

Spelling Bee Cast
Wharton FFA competed in District FFA contest this past Thursday. A big congrats to the team who came home with a sixth place banner, The Ag Issues Team! Their topic was "How can we ensure water availability for our Future?" The team consited of Natatlie C., Tayler B., Elizabeth W., Kenzie D. and Madison S.

Congratulations to Coach Roben Eller and WHS Tennis Team! The team won 3rd place at the State Team Tennis Tournament in College Station!

Breast Cancer Awareness
In 2016 an estimated 246,660 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S. During the month of October, the students of Wharton High School raised funds for The Rose, an organization that helps women who cannot afford a mammogram. This year WHS raised $1,052.24 to donate. The WHS cheerleaders presented a check to The Rose representative at the pep rally.
